One thing we all do is eat. And, while I can’t speak for everyone, I will say most people I know – myself included – get especially excited to know what’s going on in the local food scene.
Whether it’s voting for the best boudin in Acadiana, exploring where to try a viral trend or seeing an influencer rave about the hole in the wall you’ve been going to for years, we all have an opinion on food.

July 6: Rachael’s Cafe in Maurice Opened

On June 1, Rachael’s Cafe in Lafayette announced on Facebook that it will open a second location in Maurice at 8218 Maurice Ave. On Facebook, the restaurant wrote, “Opening a second location is exciting, but opening one in the town that helped raise us? That hits a little closer to home.”
Just one month later, the new Rachael’s Cafe celebrated its grand opening.
Maurice hours:
- Monday, 10:30 a.m. – 2 p.m.
- Tues-Thurs, 10:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. and 4 – 8 p.m.
- Fri-Sat, 10:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. and 4 – 9 p.m.
July 9: Chef John Folse Turns 80
On July 9, Chef John Folse celebrated his 80th birthday. Folse’s friend, Miguel Savoy, a ninth-generation Louisianian and author from Mamou, interviewed Chef Folse as he reminisced on his upbringing.
“The story of Chef John Folse and Ms. Mary Ferchard is a beautiful memory of tragedy, hope and love from a different time,” writes Savoy.

July 12: The Rolling Pin in Duson Debuts New Summer Treat

The Rollin Pin, a French bakery located at 123 Ethel Lee Dr. in Duson, released a new treat perfect for the summer heat: Mango Mousse.
Created to be the perfect size for a personal sweet treat, The Rolling Pin Mango Mousse features a ripe mango compote filling and a hard chocolate shell, beautifully designed to look like a fresh mango.
July 16: Winners Crowned at Taste of Acadiana 2026
On Wednesday, July 15, over 775 people gathered at the Cajundome and Convention Center for the 20th Annual Taste of Acadiana presented by Hancock Whitney and the Acadiana Apartment Association.

July 22: Breaux Coffee House Launches Community Program

Breaux Coffee House in Breaux Bridge annouced its debut of Coffee for the Crew, a monthly program through which it will surpise one local business with coffee for its entire team.
Nominate a deserving business in the comments of Breaux Coffee House’s Facebook post.
July 25: Grand Opening for Blazin’ Hot Chicken in Broussard

On July 25, Blazin’ Hot Chicken celebrated the grand opening for its new location in Broussard by giving away free sliders to the first 50 guests, in addition to giveaways and prizes, music and photo opportunities.
According to its website, Blazin Hot Chicken is Louisiana’s first true Nashville Hot Chicken restaurant, with locations in Lafayette, Lake Charles, Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Westlake and now Broussard.
July 26: Judice Inn Co-Owner Inducted in LA Restaurant Hall of Fame

This week, Judice Inn in Lafayette posted photos from the induction of Co-Owner Gerald Judice into the Louisiana Restaurant Association (LRA) Hall of Fame. Since 1946, LRA has advised and advocated for the state’s restaurant industry.
