SCHRIEVER, La. (press release) – Thirty Terrebonne Parish students celebrated a week of hands-on learning, creativity and career exploration during a final presentation and exhibition ceremony for the Girls Who Code STEM Camp on June 12, sponsored by Chevron in partnership with the Terrebonne Foundation for Academic Excellence.

The free, one-week camp gave girls entering grades 5-9 the opportunity to develop computer science skills, explore coding and learn more about future careers in technology. The camp was held at Fletcher Technical Community College and concluded with students presenting their projects and being recognized for their work.

The Girls Who Code STEM ceremony also recognized standout campers for their hard work, growth and leadership throughout the week. Willa Charpentie and Peighton Billiot were named Top Camper for demonstrating strong engagement, creativity and commitment to learning. The awards highlighted the personal growth students experienced.

The program was designed to make STEM learning more accessible for local students while helping them build confidence, problem-solving skills and a stronger understanding of the opportunities available in science, technology, engineering and math.

“Showing up for our communities means investing in programs that give local students real access to opportunity,” said Community Engagement Specialist for ChevronLira Casborné. “This week, these students were building projects, asking questions, solving problems and seeing how technology can connect to their futures. That kind of hands-on experience can open doors, and Chevron is committed to supporting opportunities that help students build skills right here at home.”

Chevron’s support of the Girls Who Code STEM camp reflects its broader commitment to strengthening local communities through investments in education, workforce development and programs that help prepare the next generation for high-demand careers. By expanding access to STEM education in Terrebonne Parish, Chevron is helping students gain early exposure to skills that can support future academic and career success, organizers share.

The Terrebonne Foundation for Academic Excellence helped bring the program to local students as part of its ongoing work to support educational enrichment and expanded learning opportunities across the parish.

“We are grateful to partner with Chevron again to provide this opportunity for Terrebonne Parish students,” said Executive Director of Terrebonne Foundation for Academic Excellence Ashlee Barahona. “Programs like this allow students to discover new interests, challenge themselves and envision futures they may not have considered before.”

Girls Who Code is a national organization focused on helping girls learn the skills needed to pursue opportunities in STEM. Its mission is to help close the gender gap in STEM career fields by empowering girls to learn technology skills, including coding.
