Terrebonne Parish Library Summer Events and Free Snacks

HOUMA, La. (press release) – Children and teens can enjoy free weekly snacks at participating Terrebonne Parish library branches through the Summer Snacks at the Library program, offered in partnership with Second Harvest Food Bank.
From June 1 through July 31, free snacks will be available for ages 18 and under at select Terrebonne Parish Library branches.
“This program gives families another reason to visit the library this summer,” said Terrebonne Parish Library Director Mary Cosper LeBoeuf. “Whether kids are checking out books, attending programs or just spending time in a safe and welcoming space, we’re happy to help make their summer a little brighter.”
Summer Snacks at the Library Schedule
- Mondays
Main Library, 10 – 11 a.m. - Tuesdays
North Branch, 10 – 11 a.m.
Gibson Branch, 3 – 4 p.m. - Wednesdays
Dularge Branch, 10 – 11 a.m.
South Regional Branch, 3 – 4 p.m. - Thursdays
Dulac Branch, 10 – 11 a.m.
East Houma Branch, 3 – 4 p.m.
Other Terrebonne Parish Library Events
The Terrebonne Parish Library system will also offer two summer events: America 250 Storytimes and the 2026 Summer Reading Program.
America 250 Storytimes
Presented by the Terrebonne Parish Library Storytime Troupe, America 250 Storytimes will bring history to life through stories, activities and crafts inspired by notable figures from American history.
Storytime themes include:
- Thomas Jefferson, June 8–11
- Jean Lafitte, June 22–25
- Paul Revere, June 29–July 2
- Betsy Ross, July 6–9
- Sally Ride, July 20–23
*Many of these storytimes are scheduled during Summer Snacks at the Library distribution times, giving families the chance to enjoy a free snack while taking part in a fun, hands-on learning experience.
2026 Summer Reading Program: “Unearth a Story at Your Library”
The summer program “Unearth a Story at Your Library” runs from May 26 through July 31 at Terrebonne Parish Library branches.
Participants can register at their local branch and receive a Summer Reading game board to track their progress. Readers who read for five days, 20 minutes each day, will earn a coupon from local restaurants, while supplies last.
The program encourages reading and literacy while also supporting local businesses throughout the community.
“The Summer Reading Program is one of our favorite times of the year because it brings families, readers, performers and community partners together,” saidLeBoeuf. “This year’s theme, ‘Unearth a Story at Your Library,’ invites everyone to explore new worlds through books, programs and hands-on experiences.”
In addition to reading rewards, the 2026 Summer Reading Program will feature a lineup of free performances and special events for children and families. These programs are made possible through the support of the Friends of the Terrebonne Parish Public Library.
Featured performers include Johnette Downing, Harvey Rabbit and Friends, Professor Universe, Dinosaur Experience, Creature Farm, magician David LeBoeuf and the Terrebonne Parish Library’s Storytime Troupe.
- Creature Farm will bring a hands-on animal experience featuring snakes, frogs, lizards, tortoises, tarantulas, millipedes and more.
- June 3 at 2 p.m. at the Gibson Branch
- June 10 at 2 p.m. at the East Branch
- July 1 at 2 p.m. at the Dulac Branch
- July 15 at 2 p.m. at the North Branch
- Organizers share that Johnette Downing is internationally known for her Louisiana roots music and original children’s songs and will present a lively musical performance featuring songs about gators, skeeters, crawfish, possums, zydeco and Louisiana culture. Downing has been called the “Musical Ambassador to Children,” the “Bonnie Raitt of Children’s Music” and the “Pied Piper of Louisiana Music Traditions.”

- Professor Universe will take children on an educational adventure through the carbon cycle in a high-energy show that explores plants, animals, the ground, the air, volcanoes, prehistoric rivalries and more.
- June 30 at 3 p.m. at the North Branch
- July 8 at 4 p.m. at the South Regional Branch
- Harvey Rabbit and Friends will return to the bayou with a nostalgic, family-friendly show featuring Harvey Rabbit, Cecil the Orangutan and T-Boy the Alligator. The performance includes ventriloquism, puppetry, music, magic, comedy and audience participation.

- Dinosaur Experience will bring dinosaurs to life with an immersive and educational program featuring an impressive life-sized puppet.

- Magician David LeBoeuf will bring wonder and fun to the Dularge Branch with a special magic show for children and families.
