Acadiana Now Home to Two Budweiser Clydesdales

Bud, One of Two Acadiana Budweiser Clydesdales

From Schilling Distributing

LAFAYETTE, La (press release) – The Lafayette Police Department welcomed two Budweiser Clydesdales to its Mounted Patrol Unit with help from Schilling Distributing, a locally-owned alcohol distributor that’s served the Acadiana area since 1950

In 2025, the Clydesdales made a special visit to Acadiana to help Schilling Distributing Company celebrate its 75th anniversary. Now, the Clydesdales are ready to hit the streets of Acadiana for Mardi Gras week.

Schilling Distributing had the honor of naming one of the new recruits, who will be known as “Bud.” The name was a natural fit inspired by Schilling’s longstanding partnership with Anheuser-Busch and its legendary Budweiser Clydesdales.

“Of course, we had to name him Bud, after The King of Beers,” Charles “Buddy” Schilling shared. “It’s a name that represents tradition, community pride and a little bit of fun. And we couldn’t be more excited to see him serve alongside the Lafayette Police Department.”

Bud’s presence highlights the strength, legacy and visibility of the mounted patrol program, which plays an important role in public safety during major community events, especially high-traffic celebrations like Mardi Gras.

After speaking with Senior Corporal David Stanley of the Lafayette Police Department Mounted Patrol Unit, he described Bud as a compassionate horse that works best alongside his brother, Mo. Mo was named after Mayor-President Monique Boulet, who was instrumental in bringing both Clydesdales to Lafayette.

“As the two largest horses in the Mounted Patrol Unit, Bud and Mo bring an unmatched presence,” Senior Corporal Stanley explained. “One officer on a Clydesdale equals the impact of 20 officers on foot, thanks to their size, intelligence and calm demeanor in large crowds.”

Bud has completed his training and is already making an impact in the community. He will be working in all Lafayette Mardi Gras Parades, according to the following schedule:

  • Krewe de Allons (2/13/26)
  • Children’s Parade (2/14/26)
  • Bonaparte Parade (2/14/26)
  • Queen’s Parade (2/16/26)
  • King’s Parade (2/17/26)
  • Lafayette Mardi Gras Festival Parade (2/17/26)
  • Independent Parade (2/17/26)
  • African Heritage Parade (3/1/26)

Community members are encouraged to come out, show their support and meet Bud in person. Bud can be recognized by a unique black spot found on the white stripe on his face.
