“What the Constitution Means to Me” Comes to Lafayette

"What the Constitution Means to Me"

LAFAYETTE, La (press release) – “What the Constitution Means to Me,” a play that explores how the U.S. Constitution affects our lives, will be on stage at the Theater at Baranco in Lafayette for one show only.

Organizers share that the play, named “Best of the Year” by The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune, Time Magazine and The New Yorker, is a blend of genuine humor and deep sorrow with a powerful, urgent civics lesson.

The performance, offered by Performing Arts Serving Acadiana (PASA), is at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 16.

Heidi Schreck, the playwright and actor who wrote “What the Constitution Means to Me,” earned her college tuition by winning constitutional debate competitions across the United States.

Schreck shaped these experiences into a play. “What the Constitution Means to Me” opened off Broadway, moved to Broadway and then played at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. A national tour followed.

This production of “What the Constitution Means to Me,” a collaboration between Heritage Parc/Black Theatre Experience (BTE) and PASA, is directed by Josiah Price and stars Casey Robichaux and Tina A. Burkhalter.
