LAKE CHARLES, La. (press release) –  The Lake Charles Historic City Hall Arts & Cultural Center announced a new opening date for its upcoming exhibition, “Lake Area Music: Roots, Rhythms and Resonance.”

Originally scheduled to open on Friday, May 15, the opening has been postponed due to ongoing construction work on the building’s third-floor gallery.

“Lake Area Music” will now open on Wednesday, May 20, at 5:30 p.m. The opening reception will lead directly into the season’s first Wednesday with Friends, creating an evening dedicated to celebrating the rich musical heritage and community spirit of Southwest Louisiana.

Lake Area Music

Lake Area Music explores the vibrant musical traditions of the Lake Charles region, highlighting genres including Zydeco, Cajun, Country, Jazz and Rock ’n’ Roll.

Through photographs, instruments, artifacts, memorabilia and immersive audio experiences, the exhibition showcases the musicians and cultural influences that helped shape the soundtrack of Southwest Louisiana.

Live Music and More at Wednesday with Friends

Wednesday with Friends is a dynamic weekly gathering inside the exhibit hosted by Chris Miller, a local Cajun advocate, musician and enthusiast. This laid-back series offers an intimate stage where local legends share not just their music, but the stories that shaped it.
