MLK Day, happening every third Monday of January, honors the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

According to the online Congressional fact sheet, MLK Day was established  “to be a time for Americans to reflect on the principles of racial equality and nonviolent social change espoused by Martin Luther King, Jr.”

Authorized as a legal public holiday in 1983, MLK Day is honored throughout the country with parades, days of service and more.

Today, in Acadiana, MLK Day events take place throughout the region.
