Keeping up with what’s happening nearby is not easy. It often feels even harder with all of the different digital platforms and content everyone is constantly posting. Did you check the website? How about Facebook? Wait! They only post on Instagram. But surely you got their weekly events newsletter? They’re supposed to start a TikTok soon.

We usually don’t hear about an event until our platform of choice queues it in our algorithm or our inbox actually puts an email in the correct folder.

Parler et Jouer Table Française takes place this Friday at 300 Fisher Rd. in Vermilionville from 8:30-9:30 a.m., with a morning of Bourrée, Bataille, Dominoes, coffee, biscuits and, of course, practicing your French.

Mama Joe Project in Lafayette: Sep. 18

In partnership with the Department of Communicative Disorders at the University of Louisiana Lafayette, the Mama Joe Project will bring a free movie screening and outreach event on aging, caregiving and support for those navigating Alzheimer’s and related dementia to Lafayette from 6-8 p.m. at the UL Lafayette Student Union (620 McKinley St.).

Family Bubble Blast in Lafayette: Sep. 19

Bubble Blast: Featuring the Bubble Olympics is a free, family event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Girard Park (500 Girard Park Dr.), featuring six bubble games, free treats and prizes in celebration of National Recovery Month.

Opelousas, Up Close and Personal: Sep. 19

The Opelousas Museum received a Rebirth Grant from the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities for a speaker series titled Opelousas, Up Close and Personal. The series will cover topics about Opelousas’ rich history.

The first event in the series is Sat., Sep. 19, 1-2:30 p.m., at the Opelousas Museum (315 N Main St.) and features Dr. Theodore Foster in a presentation titled “Forgetting and Misremembering Black Life in Louisiana through Civil Rights: The McDonough Three & Ruby Bridges.”

Zydeco Jam in Arnaudville: Sep. 19

NUNU Arts & Culture Collective in Arnaudville (1510 Courtableau Hwy.) and Israel Chaisson, also known as Zydeco Izreal, will host a Zydeco jam session on Saturday, 2-4 p.m.

Held every third Saturday, the jam brings musicians and community members together to celebrate, share and keep Louisiana Creole music and its traditions alive.

Gulf Brew in Downtown Lafayette: Sep. 19

From 3-7 p.m. this Saturday, Downtown Lafayette will host Gulf Brew, a craft beer festival with over 200 craft beer selections, live music and local vendors.

International Culture Festival in Lake Charles: Sep. 19

The International Culture Festival will showcase international cuisine, live music, traditional dances from around the world, workshops, art displays and more at the Lake Charles Civic Center (900 Lakeshore Dr., 2nd and 3rd floors) from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. this Saturday.

Halloween Making in Arnaudville Begins: Sep. 20
