New Robert Dafford Mural Unveiled in Rayne for July 4th
Rayne celebrated Independence Day with unveiling of new Robert Dafford mural and downtown public art showcase

RAYNE, La. (press release) – The Rayne Historic Preservation Commission invited the public to celebrate Independence Day with the unveiling of “United In Service,” the newest Robert Dafford mural, on Saturday, July 4, at 10 a.m. at Rayne City Court (301 E. Louisiana Ave.).
Organizers share that the unveiling of the new Robert Dafford mural is the centerpiece of a larger public art celebration as Rayne showcases several newly completed murals and restored works, further enhancing its reputation as Louisiana’s City of Murals.
In addition to “United In Service,” visitors had the opportunity to explore several new murals throughout downtown, including “Space Frog,” “Lemonade Corner,” “Old-Time Rayne” and “Greetings from Rayne.” Two beloved murals, “Frogtown News” and “First Edition,” have also been refreshed, preserving these community favorites for residents and visitors to enjoy for years to come.
What began as a beautification initiative in 1990, Rayne’s mural project has evolved into an outdoor gallery featuring over 30 installations that document the unique history of this Acadia Parish community.
The Rayne Beautification Board spearheaded the program.
Dafford’s murals make up approximately half of Rayne’s 30+ public murals. His work has become an integral part of the city’s identity, transforming downtown into an outdoor gallery that celebrates Rayne’s history, culture and unique character.
According to Dafford’s website, he has over 500 large-scale public works completed throughout the U.S. and also in France, Belgium, England and Canada.
The newest Robert Dafford mural, “United In Service,” honors the spirit of patriotism, service and community, which made its unveiling on Independence Day an especially meaningful occasion.
