Lafayette Travel Launches “Gumbo People” Video Series with Acclaimed Artist Francis Pavy

LAFAYETTE, La (press release) – Lafayette Travel launched a new video series titled “Gumbo People,” spotlighting the artists, culture bearers and professionals who help shape the rich cultural identity of Lafayette Parish. Through cinematic portraits of local creatives, the series explores how multiple cultures have shaped Lafayette’s music, art, food, and traditions throughout the generations, and why locals feel so passionate about sharing that spirit with the world.
The first episode launched Aug. 1 and features local artist Francis X. Pavy, known for his bold, folkloric style and deep connection to South Louisiana’s visual storytelling traditions. Pavy’s video explores his lifelong commitment to honoring the South through art, his influences from zydeco and Cajun culture, and how Louisiana continues to shape his creative vision.
“Francis Pavy is a natural choice to open the series,” says Lance LeBlanc, creative director for Lafayette Travel and Gumbo People series creator. “His work is instantly recognizable and deeply rooted in Louisiana’s cultural identity. He’s not just painting our stories, he’s preserving them.”
Following the release of the Francis Pavy episode, “Gumbo People” will feature a short, shareable look into the lives and creative forces of local artists, including Robert Dafford, Ben Pierce, Michelle “Malentina” Colon, Erica Fox, and more, meant to inspire both locals and visitors to discover the region.
The series is available at GumboPeople.com and will be promoted through Lafayette Travel’s social media channels throughout the year.
