LAFAYETTE, La (press release) – Acadiana Symphony Orchestra and Acadiana Center for the Arts are pleased to present the second concert of this season’s Listening Room Chamber Music Series, on Sunday, Jan. 7, at 2 p.m. at the AcA’s James Devin Moncus Theater. The salon-style concert will feature Belgian piano virtuoso, Philippe Raskin, who will masterfully perform the works of composers Domenico Scarlatti, Sergei Rachmaninov, Johannes Brahms, and George Gershwin. Tickets are on sale now, and can be purchased at acadianasymphony.org/the-listening-room, or by calling the AcA box office at 337-233-7060.

Raskin joins The Listening Room in place of Israeli pianist, Orit Wolf, who had to cancel her travel plans due to the ongoing and extenuating circumstances happening in Israel. The concert will move forward as originally planned, and ASO and AcA hope to host Ms. Wolf again in the future. Both organizations are happy to welcome Mr. Raskin, an equally talented pianist, who has won multiple international piano competitions including the J.S. Bach Competition, the Gretry Rotary Competition, the Paris International Piano Competition, the Lions Club Competition, and the André Dumortier International Piano Competition.

The Listening Room Chamber Music Series is a four-part concert series launched in 2022, in collaboration between Acadiana Symphony Orchestra and Acadiana Center for the Arts. The series aspires to introduce audiences to lesser-known, but highly regarded classical works, performed by top-rated musicians from all over the world, thereby enriching Acadiana’s already diverse arts and cultural offerings. Concerts take place in an intimate, salon-style setting that is meant to provide the audience with the feeling of being in someone’s living room, while they sit feet away from the performers.

ASO Executive Director, Dana Baker said, “we are saddened and disheartened that Ms. Wolf is unable to join us for this concert, and our sincerest sympathies go out to she and her family during this distressing time.” She continued, “we are, however, excited to welcome Mr. Raskin to the stage, for his first-ever performance in Lafayette.”

Sam Oliver, AcA Executive Director said, “we are incredibly fortunate to have access to some of the finest, most talented musicians from around the world, and be able to bring them to Lafayette for these intimate performances.” He continued, “there are still three performances left this season. If you have yet to experience a concert at The Listening Room, I highly recommend you do!”
