LAFAYETTE, La (press release) – Paula Poundstone will perform at the Acadiana Center for the Arts on March 7.

Paula Poundstone is the star of several HBO specials, including Cats, Cops and Stuff, and Paula Poundstone Goes to Harvard. Paula is a regular panelist on NPR’s comedy news quiz, “Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me!” She is heard weekly on her successful comedy podcast. Nobody Listens to Paula Poundstone. Paula was the first female comic in its then 73rd year to perform standup at the White House Correspondents Dinner.

We caught up with the comedian ahead of her show.

What can people expect at a Paula Poundstone show?

Laughs, big, breathless, ab strengthening laughs, for the better part of two hours. I practically guarantee it. I talk about just trying to figure out life with a house full of pets, financial struggles, an average desire to fit in, and a strong dislike of pecans.

What’s your favorite part of touring?

I love talking to the audience, finding out what they have to say about where they live. Most communities have some trick way of pronouncing something in their area, so they can easily identify outsiders. It’s fun to figure out what it is.

We really do live in a beautiful country. I am tremendously lucky to get to see so much of it.

Have you been to Louisiana/the Acadiana region?

I don’t think I have. Although, I’ve said that I hadn’t been in a place, because I didn’t remember, before, only to find out that I had been there. So, for all I know I was born and raised in the Acadiana region. My memory does not serve me well.

Anything you’re looking forward to experiencing or eating while you’re near places like the “Boudin Capitol of the World?”

I feel terrible saying this, so don’t tell anybody, but I try to swing vegan when I can, at the very least vegetarian. I know fish foods are a big part of the identity of the area, and I’m sure I’ll be tempted, but I mostly just eat potato chips.

I am really looking forward to visiting what I think is a new place for me.
