LAFAYETTE, La (press release) – Missing Festival International de Louisiane already? Continue the fun downtown for Cinco de Mayo!   The Acadiana community is invited to celebrate 40 years of Downtown Alive! by heading to Parc International this Friday, May 5th to dance the night away while enjoying music from Nathan & The Zydeco Cha Chas + Lil’ Nathan & The Zydeco Big Timers. This season of Downtown Alive! is produced by Downtown Lafayette Unlimited (DLU), the non-profit that has been bringing the community DTA! for four decades, along with presenting sponsor Evangeline Maid.

What started back in 1983 as an effort to bring the community together on a continuing basis is still thriving 40 years later. Considered Louisiana’s longest-standing free outdoor concert series, DTA! celebrates music, culture, and downtown’s place as a welcoming, creative, diverse and active city center. “DTA! is still serving its purpose to put a spotlight on downtown’s growth and development when family, friends, and coworkers gather to kick off the weekend. We invite everyone to come out to enjoy a margarita on Cinco de Mayo, take note of all of the activity and vibrancy happening, check out all of the great food, music, art, and shopping downtown has to offer,” says Anita Begnaud, CEO of DLU and DDA.

Downtown Alive! would not be possible without the generous support of sponsors Evangeline Maid, Lafayette Consolidated Government, Jazz Fest Foundation, The Grouse Room, KRVS, Lowry’s Printing, Home Bank, and the National Endowment for the Arts.

To commemorate the 40th anniversary, in addition to the 2023 season’s merchandise, DLU will offer limited edition versions of the 1983 original DTA! poster design on t-shirts, posters, and stickers.  All merchandise will be available for purchase online and during DTA! On May 5th.

The entire community is invited to enjoy live music at DTA! in Downtown Lafayette for one last Friday night in May. Music starts at 6:00 p.m. and concludes at 9:00 p.m. Please leave ice chests at home to help keep DTA! free to the public – grab a drink from the Home Bank beverage tent and a bite to eat from food vendors and downtown restaurants. Most importantly, don’t forget to support local small businesses while downtown!
